Lover Liar Predator nominated for a Scottish BAFTA

We are thrilled to celebrate the news that Lover Liar Predator, the powerful film featuring the work of Own My Life, has been nominated for a Scottish BAFTA.
The nomination is a huge moment for the filml and for the four women whose stories sit at its heart: our founder, Natalie Collins, Robyn, who attended an Own My Life course, and Shannon* and Jenni.
All four women were abused by the same man. Lover Liar Predator tells the complicated and courageous story of how his abuse was exposed, how he was brought to justice, and how the women found ways to resist the power he had sought to hold over their lives.
At its heart, this is a story about the devastating reality of men's abuse of women and children. But it is also a story about something else: the extraordinary strength of women.
The film shows how sisterhood can challenge and break the power abusive men wield. It shows that what happens to a woman is not the end of her story. There can be justice, connection, joy and hope, even after profound harm.
We are particularly grateful to director Marta García Aliaga, whose sensitivity and skill enabled this complicated story to be told with such care. Marta has created a film that educates viewers about the ways abusers operate, while also being cinematically beautiful and deeply human.
That achievement belongs to the whole film crew. Everyone involved worked incredibly hard to tell this story wisely and well, holding the complexity of women's experiences while creating a film that can reach audiences far beyond those already familiar with the realities of domestic and sexual abusers.
The Scottish BAFTA nomination is recognition of the power of that work.
For Own My Life, we're especially excited about what this could mean for the women who have yet to discover our course. Our hope is that the nomination will bring the film, and the message behind it, to an even wider audience, creating opportunities for more women to own their lives.
And the women featured in the film are excited to take to the red carpet together.
They won't simply be celebrating a remarkable film. They'll be standing together as a reminder to women and girls everywhere that what men do to them is not the end of their story.
There is always the possibility of joy.
There is always the possibility of hope.
And there is extraordinary power in sisterhood.

We're incredibly proud of Lover Liar Predator, of the women who made it possible, and of everyone who worked so hard to bring this story to the screen.
Now we're looking forward to celebrating together at the Scottish BAFTAs - and to seeing where this story travels next.
*Shannon is running the London Marathon for Rape Crisis England and Wales, we'll be shouting a lot about how brilliant she is in the next few months, and you can sponsor her HERE.
