We are absolutely delighted to share that we have been awarded funding from the Charles Plater Trust to develop a newly designed Own My Life course specifically for girls! This generous investment will allow us to begin an ambitious two-year journey to create, pilot, and launch a programme that will give girls the tools to understand and own their lives.
The awards were presented at the Trust;s ceremony in Cardiff on Monday 24th June. Although we were unable to attend in person, our CEO Natalie, shared this heartfelt video message expressing our deep appreciation to the Trust for recognising the urgency of this work—and for believing in the potential of girls and those who support them:
Empowering the Next Generation
This funding enables us to:
Create new materials, including an Own My Story journal for girls.
Produce engaging, age-appropriate videos tailored to girls’ experiences.
Develop a supplementary training package for Own My Life facilitators, specifically focused on working with girls.
Pilot the course with specialist partner organisations.
Evaluate and refine the materials based on feedback from girls and facilitators.
All of this will ensure the course is not only relevant and impactful, but truly reflective of the experiences of girls today.
A Response to Urgent Need
Women who have completed Own My Life often tell us they wish they’d had access to the course during their teenage years. Now, thanks to the support of the Charles Plater Trust, that wish is on its way to becoming a reality.
In light of the recent Casey Audit, which laid bare how devastatingly girls and young women are being failed by institutions meant to protect them, this work takes on an even greater urgency. The need for early intervention, education, and empowerment has never been clearer.
In our application to the Trust, we shared what women tell us time and time again—that Own My Life is life-saving and life-changing. It is life-saving in the context of fatal male violence and in response to systems that too often push girls and women towards suicidal despair. It is life-changing as girls build sisterhood, learning that the personal is political, and building literacy about power systems, enabled to make liberative choices by trained facilitators and a sisterhood of course participants.
Watch This Space
We are immensely grateful to the Charles Plater Trust for investing in this critical work. Together, we are making space for girls to understand their realities, build strength in community, and own their lives—starting now.
Keep an eye on our channels as the girls course develops. We can’t wait to share this journey with you.
